Non-Toxic Technologies

• Recycling - the time is right. Communities all over the country are implementing "pay as you throw" systems, which provide the incentive for dramatic increases in recycling and waste reduction.
• Toxic Use Reduction (TUR) - a national model. The Massachusetts Toxic Use Reduction Act requires reporting of use of toxic chemicals, voluntary plans for reduction, and TUR training. Massachusetts use of toxics is down 20% and companies have been saving money. 
• Zero Discharge Manufacturing - it's here and now. Once a company reduces or eliminates the use of toxic chemicals, the production of wastes becomes unnecessary. Several companies have created "closed-loop" systems that produce little or no waste materials.
• Alternative Hazardous Waste Treatment - several new promising technologies have been developed to deal with toxic wastes and contaminated soil.
